Scott Smith is a 45-year veteran of the sound recording and motion picture business. His experience covers a broad range of disciplines related to the recording, reproduction and preservation of sound recordings and film.
An award-winning sound mixer with over 50 feature films and TV productions to his credit, including The Fugitive, Risky Business, Roll Bounce, A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas, Brewster Place, Shameless, Chicago PD and most recently The Bear, Mr. Smith has constantly been at the forefront of innovations related to sound recording for motion pictures. He is an active industry participant and respected thought leader in the area of film sound and audio preservation.
Over the span of his career, Mr. Smith has been responsible for the design, engineering and maintenance operations of a number of facilities. He has owned and operated Chicago Audio Works, an independent sound facility, for 30 years, as well as establishing other businesses related to motion picture and sound recording. With business partner James Bond, he is vice-president of Full Aperture Systems a specialty motion picture and high definition projection systems. The firm has been engaged in a number of high profile projects, including the Gene Siskel theaters at the Art Institute of Chicago, and the REDCAT Theater at California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles.
Mr. Smith is currently engaged in the area of production sound recording for film and television, as well as audio preservation, with a special emphasis on sound recordings for motion pictures.
