ABOUT US

Chicago Filmmakers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1973. We serve the Chicago filmmaking community by providing low-cost film classes and youth camps, workforce training, fiscal sponsorship, professional development, networking opportunities, regular screenings of independent films, and two annual film festivals: Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival and The Onion City Experimental Film Festival.

ACCESSIBILITY

Chicago Filmmakers' facility is physically accessible. There is an accessible parking lot with wheelchair designated parking. The path from the parking lot to the building entrance is ground level with a no-step entrance to the building. There is an elevator to the upper classrooms and office.

Emergency exits are wheelchair accessible, including an area of rescue assistance for wheelchairs at the platform on the top of the fire escape on floor 2. Emergency fire alarms include audio/visual alerts.

The theater includes three wheelchair seating areas disbursed in different parts of the theater. There are wheelchair accessible restrooms, including men's, women's, and a unisex restroom, a wheelchair accessible water fountain, classrooms, meeting rooms, lobby, and box office.

There is directional signage throughout the facility, including signage with braille.

Screenings

Chicago Filmmakers (CF) screens films with open captions when they are provided by the filmmaker and streams films virtually with closed captions when available. We also have assistive listening devices available at its box office for screenings. CF provides live audio description, CART, and ASL interpreters for select screenings.

Large print program materials, program booklets in braille, and other accommodations may be provided upon request. Please request at least 3 weeks in advance.

Classes

For online Q&As, webinars, and virtual classes on Zoom, CF provides live closed captioning via Rev or Zoom. Recordings of online classes are provided to students upon request for accessibility purposes. Otherwise, classes are not routinely recorded.

For accommodations not listed here, such as ASL interpreters, typists, or audio recordings of in-person classes, please submit requests at least 3 weeks in advance
