Chicago Premiere of OUR BODIES OUR DOCTORS, preceded by UNDUE BURDENS, a short film by Chicago Filmmakers grantee Andrea Raby
PROGRAM
OUR BODIES OUR DOCTORS tells the story of a quiet rebellion in the field of medicine as a cohort of physicians faces abortion stigma within their own profession and confronts religious control over healthcare decisions. An intimate portrait of the lives of these providers and their struggles to provide abortion procedures, the film explores the importance of practices founded on feminist principles and their profound impact on models of patient care in mainstream medicine.
“The debate continues to be defined by gruesome images from the anti-abortion movement, but OUR BODIES OUR DOCTORS shows truth to power, exposing the daily realities of performing procedures from providers POV and why they fight for reproductive justice.” – Gloria Steinem, author and activist.
Directed by Jan Haaken, 80 mins. USA, 2018
UNDUE BURDENS
UNDUE BURDENS showcases two organizations that have helped people access abortions, both back when abortion was illegal and today when traveling thousands of miles for an abortion is the new normal.
