THE MURDER OF FRED HAMPTON

Directed by Howard Alk, 1971, 88 mins.
On December 4, 1969 at 4:30 am, a lethal hail of police gunfire left Chairman Fred Hampton and Mark Clark dead. Four other members of the Chicago Black Panther Party were wounded. Chicago filmmakers Howard Alk and Mike Gray already had a documentary on the Panthers in progress. This, along with their footage of the crime scene, was later used to successfully challenge news reports and official police testimony of the incident and was pivotal in exposing the actual facts of the raid.
