Jean Young is a Film Scholar, Filmmaker and Workforce Development Specialist for the Media and Entertainment Industry. She began her professional film career as an IATSE Midwest Local member after attending the Community Film Workshop of Chicago (CFWC) under its founder, Jim Taylor. Jean has worked with such filmmakers as director Spike Lee, TV producer Camille Cosby, and choreographer Dianne McIntyre. Her on-screen roles include recurring extra on Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green and the gospel choir dramedy, Joyful Noise (Warner Brothers). Jean has held faculty appointments in Filmmaking, Film Studies, and African American Studies at Columbia College, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Ithaca College, and Cornell University, where she has mentored award-winning film students. Jean’s directorial debut, NICE GUY, landed her a First Runner-up in the “Best Short Film” category at the 2012 Georgia Entertainment Gala Award in Atlanta. Jean is currently completing her doctorate in Performance & Film Studies at the University of Georgia and is an avid organic gardener.
