MATRIARCH

An abstract “day in the life” portrait of two elderly mothers navigating late life transitions. This is a kaleidoscopic look at the many ways in which their current realities inversely reflect one another. 

Following her centennial, a decline in health forces Luceal into the care of her youngest daughter, while Lucy becomes her eldest son’s keeper months after losing her husband of 60 years.

Matriarch is an existential meditation on the past, present and future of two senior mothers in the final quarter of their lives.  The end result pays homage to the concept of perpetual motherhood.
