Class will take place in-person at the Chicago Filmmakers Firehouse on Thursdays, October 12-November 16, 6:30-9:30pm (CST).

This class is an introduction to the art & science of color grading (aka color correction), taught from the perspective of a working film & tv colorist. Students will be tasked with inhabiting a highly technical role in the post-production pipeline that skirts the line between artist & engineer, all while learning industry-leading workflows, common camera & delivery file- types, primary & secondary grading skills and spectrographic literacy. The class will focus on learning the intricacies & power of DaVinci Resolve.

Technical Requirements: Machines are available at Chicago Filmmakers for student use in class. Students with computers capable of running Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve (version 18 or above) are encouraged to use them in and out of the class. For those students choosing to use their own computers, the Studio version of Resolve (which costs $300) is not required - the free version of Resolve will suffice! Students are highly encouraged to have some working, practical knowledge of non-linear editing before signing up for this class.
