This course will meet in-person weekly on Wednesdays from 6:30PM - 9:30PM Central from February 12 to March 12, 2025.

This course is designed for students who have completed Cinematography & Lighting Part 1 or have taken a previous class in Cinematography & Lighting at Chicago Filmmakers.  In this second part, students will continue to expand on their knowledge and skills of lighting for film and television by learning to light for complex scenes and coverage and practicing how to light and film while working under budget and schedule constraints.  Students will complete scenes that involve moving and multiple cameras, green screens, and multiple exposures.  A guest cinematographer may attend a class on occasion, although this is not guaranteed.

Technical Requirements: Students are welcome to bring their own cameras and equipment but are not required to do so.

Course taught by Jonathan Moeller

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: SB GAMBLE

I think being in a place where you can gain hands-on experience is invaluable. I’ve been directing my own films, but since I’m self-taught, I know there are gaps in my knowledge of filmmaking and how to communicate on set. So it’s really important for me to work with other people and see how they work on set and get that practical experience. The hands-on experience is great. I really appreciate that aspect.
— SB Gamble, Writer, Filmmaker and Student in Cinematography & Lighting
