A documentary, four years in the making, follows Iranian-American filmmaker Jahangir Golestan as he rediscovers the sport of wrestling.
John and the Pahlavan tells the story of filmmaker and Iranian immigrant, Jahangir Golestan-Parast on his quest to straighten the misconceptions of his native home Iran. Living in the greater Los Angeles area, 68 year old Jahangir re-discovers amateur wrestling in the spring of 2016. Through observation, Jahangir is reminded of his youth in Iran as he learns more of the common link between both Iranian and American wrestling teams.
Admiring the passion and talent that both team Iran and team USA carry, Jahangir makes it his goal to film and document the 2016 World Wrestling Cup in Los Angeles in an effort to educate the public on two cultures that are politically divided. In the oldest and most combative sport mankind has ever known, Jahangir talks with fans, coaches, and athletes from both Iran and the USA.
