SCOTT ERLINDER
Scott Erlinder has a BA degree from the Great Books Program of Shimer College with a concentration in the Fine Arts. Additionally, he has an MFA in filmmaking with a concentration in Cinematography from Columbia College Chicago in 1992. Originally a fine artist (painting), Scott has extensive study in world history, art history and a deep knowledge of film production and, especially, cinematography.
Scott started his career after grad school at the largest rental house in Chicago, Victor Duncan, in 1989. Moving up the ladder of different departments, he became rental manager but left in 1993 to pursue a career as a cinematographer. He has shot programs for A&E, NBC, National Geographic and Discovery Channel and also has a long list of corporate clients, short films and features credits.
In 1996 he began lecturing at Northwestern University, teaching production and cinematography and was hired away by DePaul University to be one of the founders of the Digital Cinema program where he continued for 12 years. During this time, he produced independent documentaries and TV segments for PBS.
In 2018, he joined Flashpoint Academy and retired in November of 2021
Currently Scott is working on a script for a cable series on Chicago history. His previous documentary work, “Storm Warriors,” is available for purchase and “Stateless” can be seen on Vimeo.
