WRITING TV PILOTS | VIRTUAL (5/15 - 6/26)
In this fast-paced course, you take your idea for a half-hour TV series and turn it into an outline, write intensively, and get feedback from the instructor and fellow participants every week. Once through outlining, you can write script pages, and learn how to envision the world of your show; create characters and conflict; break(build) a story; and nail down your show's structure, tone, story, and act breaks.

Important Note: This is an intermediate level course. Best for students who alreay have some experience writing in basic screenplay form. Come prepared with your rough drafts and ideas.
This class will be held online via Zoom on Wednesdays, May 15 to June 26, from 6:30 – 9:30PM Central.*
WRITING TV PILOTS teaches you how to create TV pilots from idea, to outlining, to writing a strong half-hour script. You will learn how half-hour TV shows work, study main characters, and identify the core elements central to writing character and story. You then focus on your own script, finding the story and identifying the comedy in it, learning how to pitch it, and creating a workable outline and finally, writing script pages. Instruction also covers business aspects of the current TV landscape and writer’s room basics--how writers work on staff, how freelance writers get staffed, and how writers collaborate "in the room."
Technical requirements: Students can access the course via a computer or smartphone. While access to a webcam or phone camera is preferable, only audio and the ability to view video are required. Students will need to install the Zoom app on their computer or smartphone, but no account is required.
Class Materials: All class materials are included and will be emailed to registered students.
