2008 Digital Moviemaking Summer Camps
for Youth & Teens

Chicago Filmmakers is offering 3 different summer camps this year for youth and teen groups of varying ages, skill levels, and interests, as outlined below. Join us for these exciting opportunities!
#1. Digital Moviemaking Youth Summer Camp
Now enrolling students 10 through 13 years old for the Chicago Filmmakers 2008 Digital Moviemaking Youth Summer Camp. This comprehensive, 2-week camp will cover all aspects of digital video production, from initial concept to finished movie. Students will learn about pre-production planning, storyboarding, digital video cameras, lighting, sound, shot composition, and computer editing, and will work collaboratively on group projects. The camp closes with a public screening to showcase the work for friends and family, and each student receives a DVD copy of all projects completed in the workshop.
Camp Dates: 2 weeks, June 16 – 27, 2008
Camp Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 pm., Monday through Friday
Cost: $400 for the 2-week camp
Maximum Enrollment Capacity: 10 students
#2. Advanced Digital Moviemaking Youth & Teen Summer Camp
Now enrolling students 12 through 15 years old for the Chicago Filmmakers 2008 Advanced Digital Moviemaking Youth and Teen Summer Camp. This camp is designed for older youth and younger teens to collaborate on more sophisticated movie projects while learning advanced writing and digital video production skills and on-camera performance techniques. In today’s evolving technological atmosphere, many young people gain valuable skills with video production and moviemaking in their everyday lives, and this camp will help them advance to the next level to produce more professional movie productions. Campers build on prior experience in video production that they may have acquired through other arts programs, school instruction or homework, or even through the making of “home-movie” productions. The camp closes with a public screening to showcase the work for friends and family, and each student receives a DVD copy of all projects completed in the workshop.
Camp Dates: 2 weeks, July 21 – August 1, 2008
Camp Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 pm., Monday through Friday
Cost: $400 for the 2-week camp
Maximum Enrollment Capacity: 10 students
3. Digital Animation Teen Summer Camp
Now enrolling students 14 through 18 years old for the Chicago Filmmakers 2008 Digital Animation Teen Summer Camp. This camp is designed for teens who want to learn the fundamental skills of animation and collaborate on animated projects utilizing traditional, experimental, and computer-based techniques. Stop-motion methods will be employed to animate drawings, cut-outs, three-dimensional objects, and live actors. Students will work hands-on to create projects and acquire the foundational skills common to animators in the various fields of entertainment, graphic design, and fine arts. Comfort with drawing will be helpful but is not required. The camp closes with a public screening to showcase the work for friends and family, and each student receives a DVD copy of all projects completed in the workshop.
Camp Dates: 2 weeks, August 11 - 22, 2008
Camp Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 pm., Monday through Friday
Cost: $400 for the 2-week camp
Maximum Enrollment Capacity: 10 students
Extended Care:
Hours: 9-10 am and 3-5 pm
Pre-camp and post-camp care is available for students ages 10-14 for the June and July camps for $8/hour. There will be no extended care for the August Camp. Extended care must be arranged and paid for in advance.Application Process: application

Walk-in: enrollment during regular business hours, 10a.m.-6p.m., Monday through Friday.
Enrollment confirmation will be sent within 2 weeks of receiving your application.
Chicago Filmmakers reserves the right to cancel a camp and issue a full refund in the event that minimum enrollment is not met. In the event that the camp is already full, you will be notified immediately, and will have the option of being placed on a waiting list.
Payment Information:
The full camp fee ($400) is due at the time of registration. If the camp is cancelled by Chicago Filmmakers, a full refund will be issued immediately. If the student is withdrawn from the camp prior to June 1, a refund of $350 will be issued ($50 of the $400 camp fee is a non-refundable administrative fee). After June 1, no refunds or credits will be issued.Waiver Required:
For insurance purposes, each camper will need a parental release form signed by parents. Children and teens will not be able to participate in the summer camp without a signed waiver.What your Camper Should Bring:
Campers must bring their own lunch, a snack and drinks. Unfortunately, refrigeration cannot be provided.
